He hires Amari and Kevin to join his own personal A-Team, an organization he formed to right the world’s wrongs, one mission at a time. At first reluctant to join this team, Amari’s father, veteran homicide detective, Pete Johnston, finally agrees to take the job so he can protect his daughter from harm.

Amari’s bizarre first mission comes after a UFO cult attempts to steal not only the Shroud of Turin but also the Sudarium of Oviedo. However, in a surprising twist of fate, she and Kevin find themselves captured by the very cult they pursue. Desperate to save Kevin and his daughter, Pete unravels clues previously discovered by Amari in a frantic attempt to rescue them before they fall victim to the cult leader’s suicidal vision.

Although this novel is Volume 2 in the Amari Johnston series, it can easily be read as a standalone title.

Good book, with some complaints

Well written book with a bit of humor thrown in once in a while. Unique characters, plenty of action, with a bad tempered female martial arts expert as the protagonist. The story gives an interesting look at a UFO type cult, but doesn't get too deep into the details, since it's mostly about how Amari and her team save the day. A few complaints: If you're hoping for romance, this book doesn't satisfy- there is a young couple in love, but they seem more like brother and sister - no sparks. If you prefer "showing, not telling," be warned - it seems every character has a back story, and it's told in lengthy narratives. The main character seems unnecessarily cruel and vengeful near the end, and her actions are approved of by other characters, which is disturbing coming from one of the "good guys," especially since she professes to be a Christian. Also, too many loose ends - I wanted to know more details about what happened to some of the more important characters. All that said, I enjoyed the book and am considering reading more in the series.

I give this book five stars because I hated to put it down when I had to. There is plenty of action and I liked the way the story is pieced together. I do consider it "Christian" fiction but it is not at all "preachy" and I think anyone who enjoys investigator novels will enjoy this story with it's elements of cults, religious artifacts, and science fiction.

The low rating comes because the attempted (not sure what type of ) speech for Kevin with the saint's, double negatives and inserted words sounded ignorant for a genius. The heroine was young, but would such a newly devout person take such pleasure in hurting others, even criminals and hurting them so badly the police couldn't get needed information? Her anger issues, arrogance, determination to do everything her way, rudeness to her father made for a less believable and likeable character.
